Good Evening Anglers! Tonight we had our 1st meeting of the New Year at none other than the iHop at 183 & Duval Rd. Our fabulous new President, Brenda Davis presided over the meeting. Our very first item on the agenda was to give a very special THANK YOU to Joe and Marilyn Connell! Each and every year Joe and Marilyn set up our annual club party at the UT Club. The food is always amazing and the company is equally as good (depending on who you talk to! just kidding). Marilyn creates the annual slide show and always does such a phenomenal job along with the fun games that she comes up with! So here’s to you Team Connell for all of your hard work you are ALWAYS appreciated!
Brenda welcomed all members to the meeting. Those Teams in attendance were: Teams Davis, Connell, Gold, Summers, White, Derks, Burns, Roberts, Brown, Parish/Killough, Huebel/Smith, Trevino and Team Seagroves.
The club wishes a very Happy Belated Birthday to Casey Burns who celebrated her birthday on January 4th. Also celebrating birthdays in January are Joe Connell on the 12th and Rosemarie Trevino on the 27th. Happy Birthday to you all!! It seems that we do not have any couples who have an anniversary in January…. Brenda suggested that one of our couples who haven’t tied the know yet maybe get married in January! No pressure guys!
On to the business side of things now. Our awesome new Tournament Director, Wayne Seagroves did a great job of running the tournament business side of things. 1st on his list was to announce the winners of the December 7th Decker Lake tournament. This was certainly an interesting tournament to say the least. The temperature outside never reached above 23 degrees with the wind chill it was more like 18 degrees or colder. I’ll put it this way, our line was freezing and we were back lashing due to ice build up on our reels. 3 teams were just crazy enough to show up and fish. Teams Brown, Roberts and Parish/Killough were the nutty ones who showed. In 3rd place was James Roberts with an unknown weight! 2nd place went to Parish/ Killough with 10 something pounds! 1st place went to Team Brown with 17 something pounds including a Big Bass over 24″.
Next order of Tournament Business was to vote on the January 18th Weigh-In time and Location. Pete gave the club information on Sunrise Beach (Mcnair) as a new location for us to weigh-in at. We can no longer use the Yacht Club to park or weigh-in at. Everyone agreed that Sunrise Beach would be where we will weigh-in at on Saturday, January 18th! The weigh-in times will be 7am-3pm.
Just a reminder that our February tournament will actually fall on March 1st at Lake Bastrop. We will vote times at the February meeting.
Our Spring 2-day Tournament has been decided on! We will be fishing Falcon Lake on March 29th & 30th. We do have rooms blocked off at Sun Bridge Inn with the rates at $65 per night plus tax. The phone number for Sun Bridge Inn is 956-765-1225. Call soon to reserve your room!
Jerry Gold gave the Treasurer’s Report. Cliff Davis will be taking over Treasurer duties after he and Jerry get together. REMINDER!!!!! Club dues of $30 are due by the February tournament which is on March 1st.
The clubs sends out a special “Thank You” to Pete and Rosemarie Trevino for delivering the Charity Raffle donation money to the Capital Area Food Bank. We were able to raise $300 cash to give to them and they sent us a letter of appreciation for the donation.
We need to start thinking about whether or not we want to join TABC this year. We all agree that it is important and fun to be able to go out there and fish a tournament and represent the MMBC but some may not be sure that TABC is the way to go. Please do some research and see if you can find any other organizations that host Tournaments such as the Top 8 that we fish every year with TABC. We will need to decide by April since TABC dues are due April 15th. The annual dues for TABC are $30 per family or couple. I will send out an e-mail to get a jump start on seeing where everyone is at with staying with TABC.
