October 2012 Newsletter
On the evening of October 2, 2012, fifteen teams met for the monthly club meeting. President Joe Connell welcomed Teams Brown, Burns & Regan, Connell, Davis, Gold, Hagaman, Huebel & Smith, Martinez, Parish & Killough, Pederzani, Roberts, Sanchez, Summers, Trevino and Wacker. He wished a Happy Birthday to Larry Pederzani whose birthday will be on October 13 and a Happy Anniversary to Lesli and Robert Brown who will celebrate their 4th wedding anniversary on October 11!
Joe gave a TABC tournament recap. Our club’s Number One teamed took second place in the overall club standings. We are SO proud of them! That team was comprised of: Lesli and Robert Brown, Brenda and Cliff Davis, Leslie Killough and Brent Parish, and Jesse Sanchez and Larry Pederzani. Their two day tournament total was 68.11 pounds!
- Teams Two and Three did not fare as well but brought fish to the weigh-in and had a great, fun time.
- Joe also thanked and complimented Glenda and Summers for their participation and support with TABC. They worked tirelessly all weekend so the anglers from all around Texas could have a great time.
- The MMBC also sold the most raffle tickets and so our club received reimbursement one entry fee of $400.00.
- MMBC ROCKS!!!! More info can be found here for results: http://tabconline.org/top8.html or for photos click here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Texas-Assocation-of-Bass-Clubs/354252711321196
Rosemarie Trevino gave the treasurer’s report. There was quite a bit of financial activity this month! Club members discussed what to do with the $400.00 from TABC and it was decided by vote to save it for either next year’s TABC team(s) or to use for any urgent needs during the next year.
Tournaments:
Jesse Sanchez, club Tournament Director, guided the members through the following:
- Awards were presented to the winners of the September 15 tournament which was held on Lake Belton
- The October 13 Tournament will be held on Lake Travis and the times will be from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and the weigh-in will be held at Mansfield Dam, which is open but only has one lane. During the October tournament last year, members wore pink in support of Breast Cancer and the three survivors in our club. Members will again wear pink during this tournament!
- A team count for the November tournament was taken and it was discovered that only four boats would be participating. A discussion followed. Those who were planning on participating voiced their opinions about continued participation. A thorough, lengthy discussion again followed with a vote. The outcome was that we will cancel this year’s fall two-day tournament and then a one day November tournament was planned.
- The November Tournament will be a one day tournament on Saturday, November 17 and will be held on Lake LBJ. Times and weigh-in will be chosen at the November 6 meeting.
- The December Tournament will be held on Sunday, December 2 on Lake Austin. The times and weigh-in will also be chosen at the November meeting because this tournament will be held before the December meeting.
There was no other Old Business
New Business:
- Members were reminded that nominations for 2013 Officers will take place at the November 6 meeting. Elections will be held at the December 4 meeting. Members will be asked if they wish to accept the nomination before the voting in December.
- Members were also reminded that any changes in the club constitution need to be made (nomination) by the November 6 meeting, posted, and then voted upon at the December meeting.
- One other item that will be placed on the November meeting agenda is the club party. It is held annually in January. Joe mentioned that the UT Club will be available as a possible location for the party if members wish to hold it there. Please check your personal calendars as we will plan a date for this in November.
- The annual club raffle where monies go directly to a charity was discussed and members chose to have it in November. A donation will be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ Pat Gold will give contact info to Lesli. Club members are asked to bring fun fishing or other prizes to the November 6 meeting and to purchase as many raffle tickets as possible so that we can make a hefty donation to this worthy cause.
Tips and Techniques:
- Brent Parish shared some information about fizzing fish. He spoke with a Texas Parks and Wildlife representative and received some papers which show the recommended procedure for venting a largemouth Bass’s air bladder—side fizzing. Brent passed these out to members present. I could not find a link to the exact TPWD paper but did find a video link here: https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1574149841448
Prize Drawing:
Lesli brought some great prizes in, including some “pink” items for our breast cancer awareness month. Team Connell now owns the Steal Token.
