Team Summers turn up heat and disintegrate the competition on Lake Buchanan!!

LAKE: Buchanan
DATE: June 2nd, 2012
TIME: 6:00am – 3:00pm
WEIGH IN: Burnet County Ramp

It is not often that the first place team more than doubles the rest of the field, but on Lake Buchanan that’s exactly what Glenda and Allen Summers did. To illustrate the magnitude by which they won, you could add up the weights for second and third place and that still would fall several pounds short of the enormous 20.57 pound limit of bass that Allen and Glenda Summers wow’ed the rest of the field with. Their bag of fish was anchored by a monumental 10.43 pound largemouth caught by Allen. This is not only the big bass of the tournament, but is also the new big bass of the year and is now Allen’s new personal best fish ever. I overheard him comment, “I finally broke into the double digits.”   The couple reported that Glenda also had one on earlier in the day that may have been even larger than Allen’s fish but her line broke as the monster made a last run for freedom. Glenda still managed to bring in a beautiful 4.6 pounder that took woman’s big bass honors. I know I speak for everyone in the club when I say great job and congratulations, we bow before you on this day.

Unfortunately that’s just about the only highlight of the Lake Buchanan tournament. Most teams struggled to catch keeper sized bass. Only one other team managed to bring in a limit of bass, and consequently it was good enough for second place. Robert Brown and his guest had 8.09 pounds when the scales settled. Rounding out the top three was Jesse Sanchez and his guest Jeff Huebel ,(now a club member) with three fish for 7.80 pounds. Everyone else pretty much sucked it up big time! But as always we will be back on the water next month, determined as ever, for our first night time tournament of the 2012 season on the famed Lake Austin. You never know how things will shake out on that lake. With multiple double-digit fish caught out there this season thus far, Allen may want to put some voodoo on his fellow club members if he wants to retain the big bass of the year position! Good luck to everyone. Be safe and see ya out there.

The team Parish/Killough make it back to back wins!

Thanks to all who showed up to fish the fifth tournament of the Mr and Mrs Bass Club of Austin’s 2012 season.  We had 11 couples compete on the gator infested waters of Choke Canyon.  Every team managed to catch a few keeper bass on this hot May day.

Brent Parish takes the men’s big bass honors with a 3.90 pounder.

Women’s big bass goes to Britney Hagaman with an awesome 6.17 pound largemouth.  This is also Britney’s new personal best bass.  I bet she can’t wait to go back to choke canyon!  Congrats Britney!!

Our photographer has had some technical difficulties.  Big thanks to our secretary Marilyn Connell for helping out and taking some additional photos.  Next tournament will be held on our own highland lake, Lake Buchanan.  The water is low there but the fishing is pretty good.  See yall there June 2nd!

LAKE: Fayette Co.
DATE: February 11th, 2012
TIME: 7:00am – 4:00pm
WEIGH IN: Park Prairie

Leslie and Robert Brown win the second tournament of the 2012 season on Fayette Co. Lake!

The Mr. and Mrs. Bass Club of Austin held it’s second tournament of the 2012 season on another power plant lake where the warm waters provided some good fishing for most. This was the second time the club competed in a picture/paper tournament format which seemed to work well for everyone.  Topping the field of 8 bassin’ couples for the second time in as many tournaments this year was team Brown.  They weighed in an almost 20 pound sack of Fayette bass.  Taking second place honors was the Pederzani’s with a nice 15.56 limit of  largemouths.  Rounding out the top three was team Davis with another limit of paper fish that weighed 14.07 pounds.  Great job to everyone who showed up to battle the cold front and high winds which accompanied it.

Since both the lakes we have fished for the 2012 season were slot limit lakes and nobody brought in a bass over the lenght limit on either lake, both the men’s and women’s big bass positions are still up for grabs. We will be heading to Falcon Lake in March for a two day tournament where I am absolutely positive both these positions will be filled and maybe even secured for the year if the fishing is as good as what we all expect from Falcon Lake.  Hope to see everyone there!

WEIGH IN: North Shore

Leslie and Robert Brown win on Lake Bastrop!

The Mr. and Mrs. Bass Club of Austin held it’s first tournament of the 2012 season on the warmer than typical waters of Lake Bastrop.  This was the first time the MMBC held a paper tournament where pictures of the fish on the measuring board must be presented at weigh in.  It worked rather well.  We kicked off the 2012 season with nine teams showing up to challenge the bass in Lake Bastrop despite the cold and windy conditions.  The 2010 Anglers of they Year, Leslie and Robert Brown took top honors on this day.  Since this was a paper tournament, there was no Big Bass money awarded. February takes us to Fayette County lake where we hope to land some of the large bass that Fayette County Lake is known for.
